TRADE MISSION TO IRAQ
The CEO of the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI) was recently in Iraq and has met this Friday Prime Minister Nouri Al Malaki at the occasion of the visit of a high ranked delegation to Australia. In his view now is the time for interested companies to pursue the many export opportunities opening up in the country. Iraqis have a warm attitude towards Australian businessmen and that is a better start than many of our competitors in the market place.
Prior to the so-called liberation of Iraq and the earlier conflict with Kuwait, the country was Australia’s leading export market in the Middle East. Today Iraq is making some progress towards normality, but remains somewhat burdened with internal conflict. The extent of this conflict varies region to region. For example, earlier this month, Britain’s Consul-General in Basra was quoted in Time magazine as saying “I am probably being wildly over the top, but I do find this an incredibly encouraging place to be right now”.
If sufficient interest can be generated, a trade mission consisting of those seeking to make early commercial connections with key decision makers in Iraq will travel there in September/October 2009. The Exporters Club, with AACCI (SA) is holding this event to gauge interest in a mission. By attending you will:
· Gain an appreciation of the potential of the Iraqi economy
· Gain information to enable you to make some decisions concerning Iraq as a potential target in your company’s export strategy
· Learn about the practicalities and costs of undertaking a visit to Baghdad under the present security circumstances
